My entire life has been devoted to my development as an artist. I began my artistic life in the performing arts with my love affair with classical ballet. I am the founder and creator of Alberta Ballet School which began as Lindsay Walsh School of Dance. It has only been in the last three years that I have applied my creative energy and intense discipline to the visual arts in painting with oil and acrylic on canvas and wood panel. I have been fortunate to study with some highly skilled artists in Patricia Lortie Sparks, Teresa Grasby and Neil Patterson. I have a constant flow of commissioned works to complete and am currently painting 9 pieces for my second juried show “Inspired Living” this summer in British Columbia. I love to participate in festivals such as the Plein Aire Festival in Bragg Creek Alberta and Elbow Valley Market.
ARTIST STATEMENT FOCUS: I am blurring the lines between what I see and how I choose to see it. This is most evident in my choice, creation and application of colour.
INSPIRATION: Currently my work is inspired by my environment. I capture photographic images that I collect as I am moving through the beauty of the Canadian seasons. Sometimes studying seven or eight images in relation to each other, I am then motivated to create my own fantasy landscape from these inspirations.
TECHNIQUE: I move between oil and acrylic and play easily with texture from impasto qualities to silky buttery finishes as each piece informs me. In this collection I have used my hands, spatulas, painter’s trowels and knives as well as my favourite brushes.
